“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men”  –Colossians 3:23

This is one of my favorite verses in the Bible. It says, “give your best, even when you’re tired, even when you don’t get paid well, even when people suck, give your best.” To me this is one verse that points out to honor God with every part of our life, or in other words worship God when you work, when you play, and with whatever you do, do it as you are worshipping God. This verse challenges us to do everything “with all your heart”, as to say “don’t just do it halfway or the cheapest way, but give it your very best”.

Where I work we have a certain level of excellence in a lot of things. We have excellent equipment, website, graphics, videos, music, preaching, and other things as well. I love it. I will say that a lot of this has to do with my friend Chris, who we had a going away party for just a week ago. He has a standard of excellence in everything he does, and it pushes those of us around him to be excellent as well. He helped to set a foundation in our organization that we will not just get by with the cheapest equipment or bypass hard work to throw something together, but we will instead strive to be leaders and give our very best we have to honor and worship God. I’m so thankful for men like Chris, and we will miss him dearly. Not because of the excellence he brought, but because he is an incredible leader and friend.

I challenge you this week to evaluate the things you do and see if you are just throwing them together to finish, or are you giving it your all to create a culture of excellence.
